The hermit at Tanner's Ranch provides you with your mission: hunt down and kill six Sasquatches, who live along the trail that leads up the mountain to Cochinay. Follow the trail, being wary of near-constant ambushes from undead, and stock up on Violet Snowdrops while you're here.
When you get close to a Sasquatch, its patrol area is labeled on your minimap in blue. At a distance, they can be easy to mistake for a zombie in dark clothing, but when you get close, they turn around and run away from you.
Hunt them down one at a time as you make your way up the mountain. The sixth Sasquatch is sitting by the side of the river on the far side of New Elizabeth's northern border. You can either shoot him or let him live as you see fit; either way, you've completed this mission. John says he will and that he has to. After all, the Sasquatches are dangerous monsters who eat human children.
But this Sasquatch explains to John that his kind only eats berries and mushrooms, or at least they used to. Here, the creature breaks down. His family is gone, his whole species has been killed of by a maniac and, facing the prospect of having to go on along, he begs to be killed too. The cutscene ends, and the mission is complete. After the mission, the Sasquatch will remain underneath the tree, and the player can choose whether to kill him or leave him alone.
For a game as violent as Red Dead Redemption , this quest is particularly morbid and jarring. Many of the game's quests are fairly straightforward in their morals. You can choose to do something good or bad, and there are few tricks. But here, the player genuinely believes they are doing the right thing for the community up until the end. Somewhere in this location, the player can identify the thermal signature of what appears to be a Bigfoot. Player interaction is kept to a minimum, and the Bigfoot will quickly disappear after being spotted.
Grand Theft Auto 5 also has two side missions concerning Bigfoot. In "The Last One," the player hunts down what they believe to be a true sasquatch until they reveal themselves as a costumed cook.
Likewise, in the online mission, "Golden Peyote," the player character undergoes a series of peyote-induced hallucinations where they believe themselves to be a sasquatch. Unfortunately, while the player takes control of a "sasquatch," no true sasquatches are revealed. During the side mission "Birth of the Conservation Movement," John Marston does find himself face to face with multiple sasquatches. John hunts down all but one of them. This final sasquatch reveals that it is fully sapient, and pleads with John to spare its life.
The player can choose to let it go or to kill it, either way John can still encounter stray sasquatches in the forests of Tall Trees.
