Who is elongated man

Reuniting on the other side, Ralph and Sue became a pair of "ghost detectives," solving cases from beyond the grave, now together forever. When Ralph Dibny was a young man, he found himself obsessed with the "Indian Rubber Men" he saw at various carnivals and sideshows.

Ralph then found a way to distill the gingo fruit down to its raw form, and once he ingested that, he gained the powers to stretch his body in all kinds of forms. Soon after gaining his abilities, Ralph ended up moving to Central City and becoming a costumed Super-Hero, and started calling himself the Elongated Man. As long as he took a new dose of the gingo extract every few days, he could maintain his powers.

During his early years as a costumed hero, Ralph learned to become an amazing detective, despite not being formally trained, and doing everything on instinct. Despite wearing a mask early on his heroic career, Ralph decided to reveal his secret identity to the public, being one of the very first DC Super Heroes to ever do so.

Becoming a wealthy celebrity from his nationwide public appearances, it was during one of those that that Ralph met and fell in love with a woman named Sue Dearbon, whom he later married.

Together, Ralph and Sue becoming a mystery solving pair of globetrotting detectives, a kind of married Holmes and Watson. Ralph joined the Justice League of America during their most formidable years, when they were operating out of a satellite in Earth's orbit.

Elongated Man stayed with the team when they shed many of their most powerful members and moved their base of operations to Detroit, and then joined the European branch of the Justice League International.

Always, his wife Sue was at his side. He rejoined his JLI teammates when they got back together and called themselves "the Super Buddies," and even had a brief stint in the Doom Patrol. Ralph's charmed life hit a brick wall when his wife Sue was murdered. Not being able to cope with the loss of the love of his life, Ralph became hellbent on finding a way to bring her back to the land of the living.

He stops taking the gingo extract, therefore losing his powers, but goes on a quest all over the world to find a way to reunite with his lost wife by going to every magic user and wizard he could find. Ultimately however, he discovered he could only reunite with Sue one way — by dying himself. Now reunited with the love of his life on the other side, Ralph and Sue became a pair of ghostly detectives, helping solve Earthy crimes, only from beyond the grave.

This leaves him vulnerable to telepathy and other dangers to organic bodies. This is just one of Plastic Man's many advantages over Elongated Man. A useful facet of Elongated Man and Plastic Man's elastic abilities is shifting their body into useful shapes. Instead of just being able to stretch farther than normal humans, they can shift their bodies to fit in locks, under doors, and more useful options.

This is an extra useful ability that comes in addition to the elasticity powers of both men. Sometimes just stretching won't get the job done. It's certainly helpful to be able to turn their bodies into lock picks. Both men have this helpful addition to their elasticity powers.

One of the biggest differences between the two elastic heroes is that Plastic Man is simply more powerful. This comes from his elasticity being near-limitless while Elongated Man does indeed have limits. Elongated Man can only stretch so far. Plastic Man is much more useful because he doesn't have the same limits. Elongated Man has a body closer to that of a normal human, making him much less resilient and more limited than Plastic Man.

One skill that both Plastic Man and Elongated Man have that may come as a surprise to some is that they are both brilliant investigators. This insight into the criminal mind in addition to his smarts lead him to be a capable investigator. Elongated Man, on the other hand, was actually professionally trained as a detective. He is a brilliant investigator, second only to Batman. Even without their powers, both men are useful as impressive investigators.

Another advantage of Plastic Man's unique physiology is his rubber organs. He can move his organs around in his body to avoid critical injuries to them. Plastic Man has actually moved his brain from his head to avoid decapitation. Elongated Man doesn't have this incredible advantage because he still has physiology closer to a human. He is much more vulnerable than Plastic Man because of this. Faust planned to trade Dibny's soul to Neron in exchange for his own freedom.

Ralph reveals that he was aware of Faust's identity for some time, and that the binding spell surrounding the tower is designed to imprison Faust, not to counter any negative effects of the spell. Neron appears and kills Dibny, only to realize too late that the binding spell responds only to Dibny's commands: Through his death Ralph has trapped Faust and Neron in the tower.

However, Neron is able to escape almost immediately. Faust is shown to escape with the help of Black Adam and a resurrected Isis , who is under Faust's mental control. These events take place just prior to Countdown , indicating that Faust had only been there for a couple weeks.

Interestingly, Dibny's remains seem to have decomposed at an accelerated rate, leaving only bones behind by that time. At the end of Week 52 it is revealed that Dibny's magical, wish-granting gun worked and that Ralph and Sue are now reunited as ghost detectives, investigating a school where a paranormal phenomenon has just occurred. Ghost Sue turns to ghost Ralph and tells him his nose is twitching again.

Traci 13 mentioned that she had been taken by Ralph and Sue after her mother died. This most likely happened some indeterminate time before Identity Crisis and before Doctor Light's episode with Sue. Ralph's skeleton was used by Faust to create the illusion that Adam's hope of resurrecting Isis had failed. While it has not been explained, it may be connected to Ralph's interaction with Rama Kushna in Main article: Blackest Night.

Whatever their spirits are enduring, the bodies of Ralph and Sue Dibny did not know much peace. After taking Batman's skull, Hand sent rings to Ralph and Sue, reanimating their corpses. The couple were remade into sadistic, twisted versions of their former selves, and immediately targeted another old friend: Carter Hall, aka Hawkman. Ralph tormented his old friend, saying that Hawkgirl had hated him, then tore out Carter's heart, as Sue tore out Kendra's.

The hearts then disintegrated, powering the Dibny's rings by 0. Ralph was seen next with Sue in Gotham City. In the midst of attacking Atom, they are attacked and destroyed by the Indigo Tribe [9].
